Frequently asked questions

  • What makes Icelandic eiderdown unique?

Icelandic eiderdown is the rarest and most luxurious natural filling in the world. It is sustainably collected from wild eider duck nests after the birds have left, without causing harm. Its warmth, lightness, and durability make it unmatched.

  • How do I know my duvet is authentic?

Every Luxury Eiderdown duvet comes with a certificate of authenticity and the results of a purity test, ensuring you receive a genuine product of the highest quality.

  • What fabrics can I choose from?

You can choose between premium silk or high-quality cotton covers, depending on your preference.

  • What sizes are available?

All sizes are available upon request. Each duvet is made to order and customized to your needs.

  • How are orders shipped?

All international orders are shipped securely via DHL. We provide tracking information so you can follow your order.

  • In what currency are prices listed?

All prices are listed in US dollars (USD).

  • How should I care for my eiderdown duvet?

Caring for Eiderdown is surprisingly simple. Because the down lacks the fats and oils found in goose down, it does not attract dust mites or odors easily. We recommend airing your duvet outside on a dry, breezy day once or twice a year to rejuvenate the fibers. It does not require frequent washing. In fact, we recommend a professional gentle cleaning only every 5–10 years to maintain its loft and integrity.

  • Can I request a custom size?

Yes. Every duvet and pillow is made to order, and we can create custom dimensions on request.

  • How long does shipping take to the USA?

We ship worldwide via DHL Express. For customers in the USA, you can typically expect your order to arrive within 3-5 business days after it leaves our facility in the Westfjords.

  • Will I have to pay import taxes in the USA?

Iceland and the USA have trade agreements, but import duties may apply depending on your state regulations. Please contact your local customs office for specific details. We provide all necessary documentation for smooth customs clearance.

  • Why is Icelandic Eiderdown significantly more expensive than premium Goose Down?

Eiderdown is not a commodity; it is a rarity. While goose down is mass-produced in the millions, Eiderdown is a wild resource harvested entirely by hand. It takes an experienced farmer hours to sustainably gather enough down for just one duvet, as we must wait for the ducks to leave their nests naturally. Furthermore, Eiderdown possesses unique "clinging" properties that trap air more efficiently than any other material, offering unrivaled warmth with virtually zero weight. When you buy Eiderdown, you are investing in an heirloom item designed to last 20–40 years, far outliving standard bedding.

  • Is the harvesting process truly cruelty-free?

Yes, absolutely. We consider ourselves guardians of the Eider duck, not just farmers. The down is harvested from the wild nests at our sanctuary in Sveinseyri only after the mother and her ducklings have naturally abandoned the nest at the end of the breeding season. No birds are ever handled, plucked, or harmed. We protect the nesting grounds from predators, creating a symbiotic relationship where the ducks return to us safely year after year.

  • I live in the USA. Do I need to handle customs or import permits?

No. We provide a complete "White Glove" delivery service. We personally handle all necessary paperwork, including the U.S. Fish & Wildlife import permits and customs clearance. The price you pay at checkout is final—there are no hidden fees, duties, or surprise tax bills upon delivery. We ship via DHL Express to ensure your duvet arrives safely at your door.

  • What makes Eiderdown warmer than other downs?

It is all about "cohesion." Unlike goose or duck feathers that separate and fall apart, Eiderdown clusters have microscopic hooks that bind them together (like Velcro). This creates a continuous, unbroken layer of insulation that traps warm air without the need for heavy bulk. This allows the duvet to be incredibly light while providing superior thermal regulation—keeping you warm without overheating.
